This book tells the story of Alex's experiences during 4 years as a prisoner of war in World War II. It is the story of many allied prisoners of war. Alex survives the brutal regime in Campo 57, Gruppignano, Italy, to be transported to Stalag VIIIa, Gorlitz, and thence to labour camps, punishment camps, and finally a long march to the west. He dispels the myth that prisoners of war in Germany were protected by the Geneva Convention, and shows how companies, in particular I.G. Farben - a multi-national cartel, made their money from the prisoner of war slaves in Germany.
This book is a "must read". This book is well written by a man who is courageous enough to tell his story. It will open your eyes to the horrors of the prisoner of war camps and the brutality of the guards, and will change your attitude to prisoners of war from WW II forever.
